Today in class, we worked on fully understanding our experiment & figuring out how we will run it. In summary, our experiment tests whether or not personal preference affects choices one makes. We are planning on testing that using M&M's. We are going to have each person pick as many M&M's as they can in a certain amount of time, & then we are going to ask their favorite M&M color. After counting how many of that color was picked, we will be able to see if their favorite M&M color had an impact on which M&M's they choose, & then will be able to tell if preferences bias our choices.

Today, we worked on our student handouts - picking a hypothesis, & beginning our research. At first, we found it hard to find other psychology studies to base our research on. But after looking deeper into the topics, we found studies that are not closely related to our planned experiment, but have different aspects that are related. We decided on using three outside studies - two that were related to each other that were testing the empathy levels of  person & their impact on musical preferences, & then looking at those results to determine how they are related to cognition & systematic levels of a person. The third study looked at unconscious racial bias that affect people's actions.

Today, we fixed our research citations, & finalized the materials we need to conduct our experiment successfully. We also wrote our rough draft, & tried out different ideas for booth names - we decided on Are You Actually In Control of Your Choices? , which we hope is broad enough to draw people into looking at & participating in our experiment. We also figured out approximately how many m&ms we will need, which was a lot more than we were originally anticipating. Due to the fact that we do not want to spend an unreasonable amount of money on our experiment, we decided to change some aspects of our experiment. First, we changed the amount of m&ms each person takes from 20 to 10, & we also decided that instead of allowing people to keep our m&ms to eat, we are having a separate bowl of candy that they can pick from, which will greatly reduce our costs.
