LEVITATION STATION
Levitation Experiment Prepping & Progress
11/12/18-Levitation Experiment Prepping & Progress
Today...and last week our group has been working on getting information on our experiment of levitation. We have been gathering what we need to know about our topic and what our audience needs to know as well. Also we are researching related studies to compare and help us with our experiment. We are also defining our variables and forming our hypothesis.
11/13/18-
Today...we are continuing the same work we did yesterday. We formed our hypothesis which is: the participants will better perceive levitation when they are given an explanation of the experiment prior to participating, including what instructions they should follow, and how high we will tell them they will be going. We are determined that our audience is high school students, ages 14-18. Also we are coming up with a summary of our related experiments.
11/14/18-
Today...we are coming up with our procedure. We will be using a board to create an illusion that the participants are in the air. By having the participants hold onto our shoulders while we move down creates an opposite effect that they are acting going up. This is going to be a single-blind study which will help the participant think they are "flying". Also we are thinking about the name of our booth and creating our rough draft.
11/15/18-
Today... we are writing a list of materials. Our materials are levitating board, poster (tri-fold), glue (Elmer's glue and hot glue gun), shower curtain or movable wall to block of section so experiment is private, blindfold (cloth or stuffed goggles), cardboard to measure height of flight, markers for poster design.
11/19/18-
Today...we are creating our backdrop poster for our booth. We are writing our header for our title with glitter. We also are making a google doc with the information we are going to put on the poster in large font so that it is easy to see for the reader.
11/20/18-
Today...we are continuing with our poster. We put cotton balls on the sides to grab the readers attention and to make it look interesting.
11/27/18-
Today...we finished up our poster, so we can have it at our parent practice night. Our poster entails a summary of our experiment, information on our related studies, fun facts, and our hypothesis.
11/28/18-Psychology Fair Day!!
Today...we performed our experiment! Erin assisted the participant into our blocked of section and guided them onto the board. She also squatted down as part of the allusion of levitation. Kelly and I were the people who shook the board under the participant. Chelsea was our photographer. Our experiment went well! It got a little repetitive to do but we had to stick to doing the same thing so our experiment is controlled. Erin told the participant to take a step up, to move their feet left or right so they are on the correct spot on the board. She then said for the participants to put their hands on her shoulders and that she going to lift them up now saying "are you ready?"

11/29/18-
Today...is our reflection and data collecting day. We are putting our data on a google sheets and creating our final paper. We have to overall see if we proved our hypothesis. We proved our hypothesis that if you take away the participants vision and tell them that they are levitating that they will believe that they are being levitated.
11/30/18-
Today...We are still working on our final report. We are writing what our overall conclusion of our experiment on levitation is. Overall most of the people believed they were levitating three ft off the ground.
Tell me more about your experiment.
