Group 42
Day 1:
For our experiment, our group choose to scare people. We want the participants and/or audience to interpret how being scared effects the central nervous system. Our group knows the central nervous system as well as the fight or flight response is incorporated with scaring. However, we want to find out specifically the effects (positive & negatives) scaring has on the central nervous system. We hope for a good psychological response from the participants.
Day 2:
Our group is currently brainstorming ideas of different methods of scaring. We are planning on interviewing our subjects and then scaring them halfway through the interview. Hina Hyena 666 will jump out and scare our subjects. We also decided that we would all try to contribute to each part of the Psych Fair because we choose to be a Communist group.
Day 3:
The group discussed several ways of scaring different participants. Each of us split the work up as far as the worksheets go. We answered each others questions (if needed help) while working on the assignments.
Day 4:
Our group all worked on worksheet 18. Then we talked about poster ideas and what we are going to include/put on the poster.
Day 5:
Today, I brought in the tri-fold poster board. The group and I worked on the poster over the weekend. We included a description of our topic and decided we will survey participants on whether or not being distracted while being scared increases or decreases the central nervous system.
Day 6:
The group and I planned out how we are going to scare participants. Halima and Oliwia are going to interview/distract participants while Hina and I jump scare the participants. We came up with a name for our experiment and it is Fear Factor.
Day 7:
Our group discussed possible interview questions to ask during the experiment. We discussed creepy questions in order to intensify an unsettling atmosphere.
Day 8:
1. Yesterday we experienced a couple of malfunctions. Hina scared a girl so bad that she made her spill the starbucks drink and a teacher got ptsd back from when he worked in the hood. Also, the males tended to act strong at first, but then Hina appeared and made them fall out of their chairs, shrieking like little girls.
2. We were trying to prove that distraction does not decrease fear levels because when subjects get distracted, they are less wary of their surroundings and unaware of the impending scare. We ended up proving our hypothesis right since 66.9% of participants rated 3 and above on a 1-5 scale for fear. This is greater than the 33.1% who rated 1's and 2's, demonstrating that more people got scared when they were distracted and proving that distraction increases fear levels.
